Topographic evolution of tidal flats based on remote sensing: an example in Jiangsu coast, Southern Yellow Sea

چکیده
The topographic evolution of tidal flats is critical for local ecological conservation, coastal zone management, and physical oceanographic studies. However, obtaining this knowledge often challenging due to the lack frequently updated data over large areas. With explosion remotely sensed data, waterline method has become most operational flat topography acquisition. In study, digital elevation models (DEMs) around Tongzhou Bay on Jiangsu coast were constructed using three periods (2013, 2015, 2017) before after construction phase I reclamation project. Furthermore, characteristics analyzed from four aspects: contours, area changes, erosion–deposition distribution, typical cross-sections. results showed that: 1) During 5 years 2013 2017, overall (500 km 2 ) had been in a state deposition, with total siltation thickness 0.19 m. 2) activities affected quickly, but recovery was also rapid. implementation project (in 2015), above −2-m contour rapidly reduced by 20 recovered pre-project level completion 2017). 3) directly distribution erosion siltation. Outside seawall east side Yaosha sand ridge, 0-m expanded outer sea, reaching more than 250 m/year. 4) sandbars generally southward-moving trend. Over past 40 years, ridge shifted southward 2,500 m Lengjiasha 5,000 This study provides remote sensing solution under influence human activities.

Tidal Flat Evolution at the Central Jiangsu Coast, China
A schematized process-based model of tidal flat evolution was constructed with dimensions similar to the tidal flats near the Wanggang Mouth at the central coast of Jiangsu, China. The simulated flow patterns agree qualitatively with field observations from literature, i.e. involving tidal asymmetry, current directions and tidal wave features. The analysis of the sediment fluxes depicts that de...

A two-dimensional tidal wave model for the Chinese marginal seas with high resolution is set up and the verification results demonstrate that it can well simulate the large domain. Based on this model, a series of numerical experiments are constructed to analyze the influence of local bathymetry and reclamation of the Jiangsu coast on the tidal wave system. According to the simulation results, ...
متن کاملRemote Sensing of Tidal Situation by Monitoring Changes in Suspended Sediment Concentration in Surface Waters
Collecting information on suspended sediments concentration (SSC) in coastal waters and estuaries is vital for proper management of coastal environments. Traditionally, SSC used to be measured by time consuming and costly point measurements. This method allows the accurate measurement of SSC only for a point in space and time. Remote sensing from air-borne and space-borne sensors have proved to...
متن کاملOn the Formation of Radial Tidal Current off the Central Jiangsu Coast
In the South Yellow Sea off the Jiangsu coast, there exists a special type of sand bodies, which are known as radial sand ridge field (RSRF). One of the characteristics of this area is the distinctive radial tidal current field. Although many studies have focused on the hydrodynamic environment around radial sand ridges, the knowledge on the genesis of the radial tidal current is still in a ver...
متن کاملIdentification of benthic diatoms isolated from the eastern tidal flats of the Yellow Sea: Comparison between morphological and molecular approaches
Benthic diatoms isolated from tidal flats in the west coast of Korea were identified through both traditional morphological method and molecular phylogenetic method for methodological comparison. For the molecular phylogenetic analyses, we sequenced the 18S rRNA and the ribulose bisphosphate carboxylase large subunit coding gene, rbcL. Further, the comparative analysis allowed for the assessmen...
